When the first question was “Why Russia?”
When we began in 1999, Russia was an unfamiliar study destination for many Indian families. Before an application could begin, there was a more personal conversation: could their child feel at home there, and could this be the beginning of a career in medicine?
For our founder and director, Manoj Patki, helping families find that confidence was the starting point. We made time for their questions, explained a different education system and helped them see the possibilities beyond an unfamiliar place.
A connection with roots in Mumbai
EduRussia’s early work grew through our connection with the Russian Cultural Centre in Mumbai. We brought Indian families closer to Russian education, helping turn curiosity into a practical plan for study.
Language preparation, living costs and life in a new country were central to the conversations Manoj shared in a 2004 Times of India feature. These everyday questions, and the confidence that comes from clear answers, remain at the heart of our guidance today.
Two countries. A very human connection.
This work sits within a much longer India–Russia relationship, extending from the Soviet era into cooperation in defence, civil nuclear energy, science and culture. Education gives that relationship an everyday dimension: classmates, shared languages, friendships and professional lives shaped in both countries.
Russia’s international education ambitions continue to grow. In 2024, its Ministry of Science and Higher Education described President Vladimir Putin’s target of 500,000 international students by 2030. For a family considering Russia today, that wider context still comes down to a personal question: which course and environment are right for their child?
The part of the story that matters most
Thousands of students who began with us are now practising doctors. Among them are specialists, senior consultants and professors preparing the next generation. The years of study, the responsibility of treating patients and the achievements that follow are theirs.
We are proud to have been there at the beginning. Seeing where our students go keeps us focused on the next family sitting across from us, with their own questions and hopes for the future.
