Two sets of requirements

A university’s admission criteria and India’s requirements for returning medical graduates answer different questions. Admission tells you whether a university can accept you. Professional registration determines whether your education and subsequent training can lead to practice in India. Consider both before paying a deposit.

Build a short personal profile: school board, subjects, marks, NEET result, year of qualification, passport status and intended intake. Use the exact information from your certificates. A gap year or a change in academic plans is something to discuss early, rather than leave unexplained in an application.

NEET and your academic record

NMC states that qualifying NEET-UG is mandatory for Indian and OCI citizens intending to enter MBBS or an equivalent medical course abroad, with the qualifying result treated as the eligibility certificate under the applicable framework. NMC: NEET and eligibility certificate notice ↗

Ask your counsellor to check your result and its applicable validity against your intended admission date. Separately, confirm the university’s subject requirements, minimum marks, entrance tests and document rules for the intake you are applying to. A rule from an older brochure is not a substitute for the current admission notice.

Check the course before the offer

Course duration alone cannot establish that a programme meets every requirement. Request written details of teaching language, practical training, internship, the awarding institution and the qualification’s route to local registration. • Request the complete programme name and code.
• Ask which language is used for each stage of teaching and assessment.
• Clarify the distinction between clinical postings and internship.
• Keep the university’s written replies with your application records.
